Holly at the German therapy center with a rabbit Holly holds a rabbit for animal therapy in Germany

Holly is currently in Germany with her mother and father (Anne and Paul). Her boyfriend Adam has been visiting but must soon return to work. Holly is receiving world-class treatment at Therapiezentrum Burgau. She now has some insurance cover in Germany, which will pay for a year of treatment and some other essentials.

A lot of the original pressure is off, but we still aim to raise enough money for Holly's other family members to fly over and visit. It is lonely being away from her friends and family, especially during the arduous process of recovery, and it is very important that Holly has the incentive to keep putting in the enormous effort that is required for her continued improvement.

Holly's Story

Holly Mason was born in the Blue Mountains in NSW (Australia) on December 26th of 1984. She moved with her family to the Samford area Northwest of Brisbane in 1999 where she has since lived.

She made many friends in Brisbane while completing her qualifications as a chef then a pastry chef and learning to ride horses, progressing to competition level dressage and taking home numerous awards.

On December 8th 2008 she flew to Germany to pursue her love of horses - to see the world-class dressage stables there and to look for work with an equine clinic or other horse-related establishment.

Holly in Germany before the accident

On December 28th 2008 Holly was kicked in the head by a young horse she was leading in Babenhausen. She sustained skull fractures and associated traumatic brain injury and was initially in a coma but has progressed beyond this and continues to improve despite some setbacks.

Holly was treated for 6 weeks in Germany at world-class medical facilities but had to return to Australia for insurance reasons. In Australia we were very dissapointed and distressed by her level of care, but after 3 and a half months here we have finally returned her to Germany with a lot of support from the local and broader community.

Holly is currently being treated at Therapiezentrum Burgau, which is a world-class early intervention rehabilitation center in Germany where Holly has made great progress so far.
